HCA Healthcare UK invests £12m in new cancer centre opening in Chelsea
Based at 102 Sydney Street, the centre will also offer patients access to some of the most advanced treatments. It will house one of the first digital PET CT scanners in the capital, reducing the dose of radiation during scanning by up to 50%, making it safer for patients and helping to diagnose and stage cancers much earlier. The facility will also house a blood laboratory, meaning rapid turnaround times on blood tests, and an aseptic pharmacy manufacturing suite to produce and dispense all treatments to patients on site.
Leaders in Oncology Care (LOC), part of HCA UK, will provide outpatient cancer treatment. LOC works with leading consultants to offer the most advanced and innovative cancer care and also provides a holistic approach allowing patients to access to psychological support, hair and image services, nutritional advice, complementary therapy and the Living Well survivorship programme.
HCA at Sydney Street will also be part of HCA UK’s The Lister Hospital which will provide patients with access to nearby intensive care facilities and a new, dedicated inpatient oncology ward. The new facility will also offer general outpatient consultations for benign dermatology, gastroenterology and colorectal conditions as well as private GP services, with outpatient diagnostic support including MRI and x-ray provided by the nearby Chelsea Outpatients Centre and the Chelsea Medical Centre, also part of HCA UK.
Suzy Jones, CEO of The Lister Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK, said: “The Sydney Street facility allows us to provide cutting edge cancer services to our patients close to home, with support from The Lister Hospital and the wider HCA UK network when needed. We always strive to provide exceptional services to our patients and I am proud to say that this facility will help us provide the very best cancer treatment and care available”.
Guy Reynolds, Vice President of Cancer Services at HCA Healthcare UK and CEO of Leaders in Oncology Care, said: “HCA Healthcare UK is committed to providing patients with the very best in cancer care, whether that’s cutting edge surgery, providing access to clinical trials through Sarah Cannon Research Institute UK, or delivering the most advanced treatment plans and innovative drugs. Throughout the HCA Healthcare UK group we provide an integrated approach to cancer services meaning that our patients have access to excellent care and support during their whole journey and beyond with our survivorship programme Living Well.”
The brand new centre in Chelsea is central to the wider development of HCA Healthcare UK’s high quality cancer network in London, Essex, Manchester and across the country.
