I carried out my preclinical studies at Kings College London where I also obtained a first class honours degree in Pharmacology. I graduated from Westminster Medical School (now Imperial) in 1979 with a distinction in surgery. Postgraduate training included cardiology at the Hammersmith Hospital and neurology at the National Hospital Queen Square as well as general medicine at Whittington Hospital and gastroenterology as a registrar at Northwick Park Hospital.
I trained in Clinical Oncology at the Middlesex and Mount Vernon Hospitals and was appointed a Consultant in 1990. Initially practising in a wide range of tumour types I now specialises in treating cancers of the breast, GI tract (colo-rectal, oesophago-gastric, pancreatic) and urological cancer (prostate and bladder cancer) with chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy and radiotherapy.
I led the Royal College of Radiologists COIN project which produced 6 national cancer guidelines including breast and prostate cancer. I am involved in a number of chemotherapy and radiotherapy trials for breast, GI and urological cancer. I specialise in using radiotherapy treatments including Cyberknife, IMRT, IGRT and adaptive radiotherapy. I also carry out medico-legal work related to cancer.
