Dr Shibani Nicum is a Consultant Medical Oncologist specialising in the treatment of women with ovarian and other gynaecological cancers at the Oxford Cancer Centre.
She graduated from the University of Birmingham and completed her specialist Medical Oncology training at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, prior to taking up her current post at The Cancer Centre in Oxford in 2009. Dr Nicum is the Lead Clinician for the Gynae-oncology Unit, the Oxford Multidisciplinary Team and the Thames Valley Gynaecology Cancer Alliance Group. Through these roles, she is committed to ensuring that all patients have access to high quality, evidence based treatment. Her particular interests are in BRCA mutated cancers, and the development of new therapies for personalised care.
Dr Nicum won a national grant from Cancer Research UK to undertake laboratory research and was awarded a DPhil from the University of Oxford in 2007. She continues to be an active contributor to international research through peer review journals and conferences.
Dr Nicum is the Gynaecology Research Lead and is involved in translating advances in the laboratory into benefit for patients. She is the Chief Investigator for the CRUK OCTOVA Trial, the 6MP BRCA trial and the upcoming ICON9 trial, and is the Principal Investigator for other trials of novel agents. Dr Nicum is also a committee member of both the UK National Cancer Research Institute Gynaecological Oncology and the Ovarian Cancer Clinical Studies Groups.
