Dr Alison L Jones graduated from Bristol University in 1980 and specialised in Medical Oncology, training at the Royal Marsden Hospital, after which she took up a Consultant post of Honorary Senior Lecturer status in Medical Oncology at the Royal Free Hospital in 1993.
She now specialises in breast cancer and works between the Royal Free Hospital and University College Hospital seeing approximately 300 new cases of breast cancer per annum. She is an active participant in clinical trials, both at a local level and on the Steering Committee of a number of trials within the United Kingdom. She is past Chair of the Breast Cancer Tumour Board for North London and was Clinical Director of Cancer Services at University College Hospital for 5 years.
Currently she is a member of the London Cancer New Drugs Group, which advises on the introduction of new drugs throughout the London area and their prioritisation. She also sits on the Expert Advisory Group for the MHRA in relation to cancer. She is currently Vice-Chair of CRUK’s Grant Awarding Body (CTAAC). She is a member of a number of societies, including the British Breast Group, ESMO and ASCO. She is current Chair of the Association of Cancer Physicians of the United Kingdom and rotational Chair of the Joint Council of Clinical Oncology for the U.K.
Her clinical interests and research interests are in breast cancer, particularly in clinical trials, issues of survivorship, including fertility and other issues affecting young women, and cardiac risk of treatment. She has held a number of Grants in the field of breast cancer. She also has a strong interest in medical education and supervises and number of MD and PhD students. She has published over 100 peer reviewed papers.
